Roller says he’s mailed appeal
The chairmanship of the Augusta County Republican Committee remained in question Wednesday after Larry Roller said he sent paperwork appealing the decision of the 6th District Republican Committee to the Republican Party of Virginia.
The 6th District committee ruled in favor of incumbent chairman Kurt Michael at a special meeting on Saturday.
The issue stems from an April 10 mass meeting where Roller received more votes in an initial chairmanship election. However, when temporary chairman Jim Bailey adjourned the meeting without a vote, Michael said the meeting had been improperly conducted and held a second election. While Michael won this second election easily, a majority of mass meeting voters had already left the premises at the time of the second vote......
Michael said he has not received a copy of the original appeal after numerous requests and he does not know what the current appeal contains.Michael said he is most concerned about seating the delegates to the state convention and reiterated that he will step down after the convention and call for a new chairmanship election. Roller said that it was Michael’s interference during the mass meeting that caused Bailey to adjourn the meeting without electing delegates to the state convention.
